Raeas – A domesticated Plains-dwelling creature that the Daevyn use for riding and as a pack animal. The silvery-grey raeas floats over the ground in the thick air of Tranthaea and uses its flat, vertical tail-fin to guide its movement. It's long head and short neck make it a good grazer, but less-than-effective as a creature of war.
Raldarr – A Carvain in the Valang military and associate of Hobnar. (See also Carvain)
Ramon Jimenez – Frankie's younger brother. He has Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and has been orphaned by his parents. He is currently being raised by his aunt in Tacoma, 2026.
Raphael Varas – Late Baron of House Galvan and father to Dominik Varas.

Restorer – An Aru Elen bounty-hunter. Trained by their Aru Faylen masters, the Restorers were sent to hunt down their own kind who tried to escape slavery.
Re-strainer – A helmet made of sand and dirt that is exposed to lightning and turned into a muddy glass. They are created and sold by the Daevyn to the gru’Esh, protecting the sensitive eyes of the gru’Esh when above the ground.
Restraining Board – A restraining device used by the Vox in Nua Verden. Similar to a pillory, but portable. Two pieces of wood clamp around the prisoner's wrists. At each end of the boards, a long, wooden pin slots through them both, holding them together. The pins are held in place by wooden pegs.

Roth Kalaan – A northern city built of stone, set down into the ground so that only the peaks of its spires are visible from a distance. It is the stronghold of the Lady Tosh. (See also Tosh)
